ABOUT
Maya Hartglass is a violist currently in her senior year at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee pursuing a Bachelors of Music in Viola Performance. A member of a very musical family from New York, Maya was exposed to many art forms at an early age, participating in musical theater and creating her own rock band where she sang and played the guitar. Then the viola became her main passion. Now at Conservatory, Maya studies with Paul Laraia and has dived into all kinds of viola repertoire. She is becoming very passionate about playing contemporary music and has premiered many works and often collaborates with composers. Maya has performed in premier venues in the Boston area with the Boston Conservatory Orchestra like Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, Mechanics Hall and Sanders Theater. She also has participated in many chamber groups at school where she studied the Ravel String Quartet and Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 1. Now she is part of Violimba, a Viola and Marimba duo. Violimba works on commissioning new pieces for their unique instrumental combination and arranges many pieces themselves. They were awarded the fellowship to participate in the 2026 Lawrence Chamber Music Festival and they performed in many concerts in Appleton, Wisconsin. Maya currently works at school as Core Music Tutor and as a Session Musician at Berklee College of Music. Maya is still active in her hometown in NY and during school breaks she has worked at her local instrument store, repairing string instruments and has run the social media pages for her local arts center, Arts on the Lake. She has also worked on many recordings with her producer/engineer father, Barry Hartglass. This past summer break Maya attended the 2026 Zodiac Music Festival in Valdeblore, France where she studied with violist Francis Kefford. Maya Hartglass enjoys exploring all avenues of music whether it’s chamber, solo, orchestral, improvisation or recordings; she is eager to learn everything she can do with her viola.
